#ClerkinFest out West! Visiting Maggie and Adam, September 2016

It's been quite awhile since I updated this blog. We've had lots of fun experiences together since Elliot John was born. Life has also become much busier! (hence, the lack of blog activity).

Here is one of the highlights of 2016... our trip to Colorado to visit Aunt Maggie and Uncle Adam, who took time out of their busy semesters to host us.

Elliot earns his wings!

We loved spending time in Colorado Springs with Adam and his parents, seeing the beautiful place where he grew up.

During our first full day in Colorado, we visited the Pikes Peak Cog Railway.

The ride to the top was really neat, and the summit (14 K feet!) was spectacular.
That said, the oxygen deprivation was no joke! Later in the trip, I hallucinated, presumably due to this sustained reduction in oxygen. Later, I understood why the Cog Railway only let tourists stay at the mountain's peak for a very short time.

The ride down the mountain vacillated between silly and sleepy.

We also enjoyed the breathtaking beauty of the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.
Throughout our trip, I found myself wondering what it would be like to live year-round surrounded by such awe-inspiring beauty.

We ate lunch at the Manitou Springs Brewing Company, which is in the adorable little town of Manitou Springs.

Thank you Maggie and Adam, for securing safe car seats for the kids, and transporting us around Colorado! Here we are goofing around in the backseat.

We had so much fun laughing with you.

Goodbye, Colorado!

Get Out the Vote!

Proud of Cora and Elliot, who exercised their civic duty today.

Brings back memories of campaigning with my dad for state's attorney... different era, different Republican party. Interesting costume choices, dad ;)

Elliot's first day at Mini U

I just dropped off Elliot for his first day at Mini U. I was feeling really sad, but on my way out of the room I heard his teacher saying, "there's a big smile!". And, when I looked out on the playground, Cora (who had been dropped off earlier) was hanging around the fence that separates the "big kids" from the babies. When she spotted me, she came racing over, asking: "Is Elliot here yet?!!" She was thrilled when I told her, "yes". Then, Cora darted back to the fence with her good friend Emily, waiting for her little brother. It's going to be OK.

3 months!

Hello! I'm 3 months old today. I enjoy drinking milk, watching my sister Cora, and marveling at my hands. Sometimes I like to sleep, and other times I don't. I love all my grandparents, who have been helping out so my parents can work to buy stuff for me. I've already been to Cincinnati Children's, but don't worry, I'm OK! I make lots of adorable oohing, aahing, cooing noises. My Uncle Andy made this sweet giraffe. Isn't it cool? I'm bald, and I have a gorgeous, toothless smile. I like to be swaddled, and I love to be held. My mama and daddy are 100% smitten with me.

Cora's note song

From Cora's piano teacher :)

Dear Elise,

Here are your lesson notes from 3/8/2016:

Note to Cora:
Hello, Elise! I hope your family has been enjoying this beautiful weather! Cora wanted to pick out the song to play today, but unfortunately, she picked a song that was too difficult. I attempted to teach her about skips and steps with the "pancake" song on page 63, but I ultimately decided to go back to page 27. Cora plays all the piano keys so well! She is so energetic in singing our note song - maybe she can sing it to you at home? We looked at the "escalator" song and Cora was very excited to learn how to spell a new word! I hope you enjoy your week!

Sincerely,
Traleen

Happy 4th birthday Cora! ... and Nana and Baba meet Elliot

Happy 4th birthday to Cora! She celebrated by having breakfast with daddy, lunch at Chipotle, ice cream at Graeter's, lots of thoughtful gifts from  her Magee and Clerkin family, a bouquet from Aunt Jennifer, a cake from mama, and a basketball game with Nana and Baba! Cora Ann, you are loved.

Also, Elliot John meets Baba John and Nana Beth.

Elliot meets his Nonnos, and Cora celebrates her 4th birthday a few days early

(Side note: Thank God for the Nonnos. They were visiting while Josh, Cora, and I were all struck with a terrible sickness. We were so lucky and thankful to have their support during this tough weekend!).
